After 14 years playing Detective Olivia Benson on the long-running NBC procedural, Hargitay received a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame, right next to the one belonging to her mother, Hollywood legend Jayne Mansfield. Appearing on “The Tonight Show” shortly after the big event, the actress gushed to host Jay Leno about how special the day was for her.

“It was a deeply profound, meaningful day and a huge marker in my life,” Hargitay said. “I felt so connected to her.” After Leno showed a photo from Mansfield’s ceremony, the actress revealed just what made the day extra-special. “My big brother and my sister, who were in that picture, were here today.”

Leno took Hargitay for a walk down memory lane during her visit, showing viewers a clip from her mother’s visit to the Merv Griffin Show that she involved the actress as a toddler and an early moment from her career when she appeared on “Baywatch.” It was a brief trip, however, as the host knew she wanted to get back to celebrating her big day and let get go early.

Are you surprised it took this long for Hargitay to get her star?
