Dr. Maya Angelou passed away Wednesday (May 28), reports NBC News. The much-lauded author was 86 years old.

To honor the award-winning poet, here is her interview with Oprah Winfrey for the OWN network’s Super Soul Sunday from a year ago. Below, Oprah herself talks about her personal experiences with Angelou and finally, watch Angelou’s poem from President Clinton’s 1993 inauguration.

In addition to her writing, for which she is perhaps best known, Angelou was also a singer, dancer, actress and the first female black director in Hollywood when she directed an episode of the TV series “Visions” back in 1976.
