chris kristin beck transgender navy seal Meet Kristin Beck, a transgender Navy SEAL and 'Warrior Princess'Chris Beck, now Kristin, served as a member of the most elite special forces unit in the world — SEAL Team 6, earning a Purple Heart and a Bronze Star while on active duty. She retired before the raid that killed Osama bin Laden, having served 20 years.

Now in a memoir titled “Warrior Princess: A U.S. Navy SEAL’s Journey to Coming out Transgender,” Beck details her struggle with feeling all her life that she was meant to be living as a woman. Transgender people identify with the gender other than the one they were born.

The description of the book on Amazon reads, “This is the journey of a girl in a man’s body and her road to
self-actualization as a woman amidst the PTSD of war, family rejection
and our society’s strict gender rules and perceptions. It is about a
fight to be free inside one’s own body, a fight that requires the
strength of a Warrior Princess.”

Though gay men and women are now allowed to openly serve in the armed forces, transgender men and women are still banned from the military. As Business Insider points out, that policy should perhaps be called into question since a transgender woman not only served in uniform, but rose through the ranks to be a member of the most elite squad in the country.

Beck writes on Twitter, “Slight rudder changes early to change course have large and lasting
impacts down the road…we all hope those slight changes were correct.”
