reeve carney gi Meet Reeve Carney: The 'Spider Man' actor who will play Jeff BuckleyAfter much speculation, relative unknown Reeve Carney has been chosen to play the now-legendary Jeff Buckley in a biopic directed by Jake Scott and written by Ryan Jaffe. The filmmakers have been granted access to Buckley’s music and personal archives, and Buckley’s mother, Mary Guibert, will serve as an executive producer on the film.

Carney is best known as Peter Parker in the ill-fated and oft-ridiculed “Spider-Man: Turn Off the Dark” musical on Broadway. He performed “Rise Above,” a song from the show, with Bono and The Edge in the finale of the most recent “American Idol” season. Carney’s band, Carney (we know) opened for U2’s tour this year as well.

“We are over the moon that Reeve has agreed to take on this challenging
role. I’ve seen him perform several times…he’s been getting ready for
this all his life. It certainly doesn’t hurt that he looks so much like
Jeff,” Guibert tells

“We are excited to have found in Reeve the perfect combination of
musical prodigy, impish charm, innate intelligence & sensitivity to
play Jeff,” added Scott.

The untitled project isn’t the only Jeff Buckley film on deck. “Gossip Girl” actor Penn Badgley is set to play the singer in “Greetings From Tim Buckley,” a don’t-call-it-a-biopic father/son drama.
