Emmy winner Melissa McCarthy landed her hit show “Mike & Molly” because she doesn’t look like every size-zero actress on television — but that doesn’t mean she doesn’t have moments of wishing she fit the Hollywood ideal.
“I hope I wake up tomorrow and it’s like ‘[Gasp!] What’s the matter with her!?’ I hope I wake up at, like, 94 pounds,” she told Anderson Cooper on Monday’s show. “But I don’t think that’s going to happen.”
The actress is starting her own plus-size fashion line (she designed her Emmy dress this year!)
“I’ve been up and down. I’m much thinner since my second baby,” McCarthy says. “I’m still working on it. It’s a work in progress.”
At 41 years old, McCarthy is enjoying a new high in her career (though some of us will forever think that her “Gilmore Girls” character, Sookie St. James, was the best ever). “There are so many other things to worry about,” she says. “And I do worry about it, but I think, my kids are healthy, I’ve got a great husband, and I go to work every day and do what I want. I’ll keep working on the other, but I can’t put any time into worrying about it.”
With the exception of “Mike & Molly,” McCarthy has enjoyed a career full of playing characters whose weight is irrelevant to their general awesomeness. Cheers to her.
