“The Today Show’s” Meredith Vieira and Al Roker hit the streets on Sunday (Nov. 7) to run the 26.2 mile New York City Marathon. Viera finished with a time of 5:59, while Roker ran behind her with a time of 7:09.
Their “Today” co-hosts Matt Lauer and Ann Curry were so impressed that they treated the runners to a day of on-air pampering Monday, complete with champagne, flowers, and… foot massages.
“So is this not a good time to tell them we took the subway,” Vieira joked.
Roker says that it “got tough around Mile 15,” while Vieira says, “The last sprint was the best!” Roker’s nutritionist suggested he do it, and when he mentioned it to Vieira, she decided to join him in the challenge.
“I’ve been a runner for years and years — nothing more than six miles,” she says. “But it was really Al who inspired me. When Al said he was going to do
it, it triggered it in me. I said ‘I’ve been talking about doing it
forever. I’ll just do it with him. It will be fun to run with him.'”
