“Dexter” might be coming to an end in 2013, but leading man Michael C. Hall isn’t planning on leaving Showtime any time soon. Once he wraps up his run on “Dexter,” Hall plans to serve as executive producer on a new TV series Showtime is developing.

The Hollywood Reporter has learned that Hall is involved in the upcoming adaptation of Matthew Specktor‘s novel “American Dream Machine.” The series will tell the story of “two generations of Hollywood royalty.” It will be set in Hollywood during the 1970s and will reportedly “move back and forth to modern times.” “Dexter” showrunner Scott Buck is supervising Specktor’s script for the pilot.

No word yet on when “American Dream Machine” could move into production or premiere on Showtime, but assumedly it is being set up as a replacement for “Dexter.” Hall won’t take a starring role this time around, though THR says he might take a “small part” in the series’ ensemble cast.
