“Reservoir Dogs” actor Michael Madsen was arrested for DUI on Wednesday (Sept. 12) with a blood alcohol level of .21, more than twice the legal limit of .08, according to Los Angeles County Sheriff’s spokesman Steve Whitmore.
TMZ reports that a citizen spotted Madsen driving erratically in Malibu on Wednesday afternoon and alerted police. Responding deputies saw Madsen weaving through traffic and smelled alcohol once they pulled him over. Whitmore says Madsen was arrested after performing poorly on a field sobriety test. He then submitted to a breathalyzer following his arrest.
Madsen’s attorney Perry Wander tells TMZ that the actor says he did not fail the field sobriety test and “believes that the breathalyzer test is flawed.”
Madsen was booked for a misdemeanor DUI with a bail of $15,000. However, EW.com reports that while he was being booked, the actor complained of a medical problem and was taken to a hospital, where doctors said he should remain overnight. Police then cited and released Madsen. According to Whitmore, privacy laws prevent the release of further information about the medical problem.
The arrest marks Madsen’s second in six months. He was also arrested in March at his Malibu home following an allegedly drunken fight with his teenage son, but charges weren’t filed due to a lack of evidence.
