mike sorrentino painkiller addiction Mike Sorrentino talks addiction: 'There is hope out there and you can get help'Former “Jersey Shore” star Mike “The Situation” Sorrentino is speaking out about his addiction to painkillers, which started after he suffered an injury while on “Dancing With the Stars” in 2010.

Sorretino realized there was a problem when one day in 2012 he ran out of his prescription pain meds and wondered how he was going to continue on without them. He soon checked into rehab, where he had to start medication to treat an opioid addiction. He tells the AP that he still takes that medication on a daily basis and also goes to counseling.

The reality star has also helped launch a program called Reset Reality, which is designed to help people understand opioid addiction.

Sorrentino tells the AP that since “Jersey Shore” has wrapped, he’s “gotten back to who Michael is,” focusing on working out, cooking and spending time with his girlfriend. He also says that he has to take it one 24-hour stint at a time, with the goal being to “be the best person [he] can be for those 24 hours.”

“The roller coaster of fame and fortune is definitely a ride in
itself but to get to recovery is something special. …There is hope out
there and you can get help,” adds Sorrentino.
