“Million Dollar Arm” tells the story of how a sports agent named J.B. Bernstein went to India in order to find young men who could be professional baseball players. Starring Jon Hamm and taking place in both California and India, the movie is both heartwarming and surprisingly true.
Check out what Hamm has to say about his role and the film in this video interview.
“It’s a little daunting,” Hamm says of adapting a true story. Considering that the real Bernstein was actively involved in the movie — and held his own interview one room over from Hamm — it must have been especially daunting.
In addition to the problems of adapting real life into fiction, Hamm had to work against the type he is best known for — playing the closed-down and troubled Don Draper on “Mad Men.” “It’s about 180 degrees from the guy I play on TV,” Hamm acknowledges.
“Million Dollar Arm” premieres Friday, May 16 in the United States.
