Kevin Bacon and Kyra Sedgwick may be the proudest parents in the room at this year’s Golden Globe Awards.
The couple’s daughter — Sosie Bacon, who acted with her mother several times during the TNT run of “The Closer” — will help hand out the honors as Miss Golden Globes 2014 when NBC televises the 71st annual event Sunday, Jan. 12. Tina Fey and Amy Poehler return as hosts for the second consecutive year (and there will be a third, since they’re already booked for 2015).
“It’s super-fun,” Bacon tells Zap2it of her Golden Globes role that also involved her in last month’s announcement of the nominations for television and movies. “I got a call from my managers, and they told me my name was in the mix, then I had an interview with the Hollywood Foreign Press Association … then shortly after that, I found out I’d gotten it.
“It feels really good to me to be able to honor my parents,” Bacon adds, “because they’ve had such wonderful careers and continue to. I never really get a chance, as their kid, to say ‘thank you’ for all the things they’ve taught me. I feel like this is a big occasion for me to do that, as well as to start to put myself out there a little bit more, since I’m starting to be an actress.”

Bacon’s father starts Season 2 of Fox’s “The Following” Sunday, Jan. 19, while Sedgwick is developing the drama “Proof” for TNT as an executive producer. “They’re really excited for me,” their daughter says about her Golden Globes stint as well as her choice of profession. “They just want me to do what I want to do, and to be myself and not take everything too seriously.”
The first time Bacon attended the Golden Globes, “I actually went the year that my mom won (for ‘The Closer,’ in 2007). Both times I went to award shows with her, she won, so I got really lucky. Or maybe I was her lucky charm. I don’t know.”

Bacon’s biggest hope for this Golden Globes night invokes Jennifer Lawrence … “to walk in my heels and not trip. I’d be OK with it if I was tripping on my way to get my Oscar, but not on my way to give a Golden Globe to someone else.”
