Time’s up and Donald Trump says he plans to move forward with his vow to sue ex-Miss Pennsylvania Sheena Monnin for saying that the Miss USA pageant is fixed.
Monnin resigned from the contest — after the pageant took place on Sunday (June 3) in Las Vegas — claiming that the results were rigged and that someone saw a list of the top 5 finalists before the show aired. Pageant owner Trump had given Monnin a 24-hour deadline to retract her statement. She didn’t, reports TMZ, so Trump is pressing on with a defamation lawsuit.
Monnin reportedly sent a letter to the organization that called the pageant “fraudulent, lacking in morals, inconsistent and in many ways trashy.”
This was apparently meant to encompass Trump’s recent public stance to allow transgender contestants after Jenna Talackova’s fight to compete for the Miss Canada title, but Monnin maintains (via Facebook) that she quit because the pageant results were bogus.
“In an email to state pageant organizers, she cited the Miss Universe Organization’s policy regarding transgendered contestants, implemented two months ago, as the reason for her resignation,” the Miss Universe Organization writes in a statement.
