modern family negotiations update 'Modern Family' cast attends table read, contract talks resumeProduction on Season 4 of “Modern Family” got underway Thursday (July 26) — two days after the season’s scheduled start and under the cloud of a salary dispute involving six of the show’s actors.

A scheduled table read for the season premiere episode went off without a hitch, Deadline reports, with co-creator Christopher Lloyd making a joke about the contract stalemate and putting everyone at ease.

Meanwhile, representatives for actors Ed O’Neill, Julie Bowen, Ty Burrell, Sofia Vergara, Eric Stonestreet and Jesse Tyler Ferguson were set to begin another round of negotiations with 20th Century Fox TV, which produces “Modern Family.” The actors are seeking big pay raises for next season and a stake in the show’s back-end profits, which stand to be significant.

Thursday’s table read was rescheduled from Tuesday, when five of the actors involved in the dispute (everyone but O’Neill) failed to show. The actors also filed a lawsuit Wednesday seeking to be released from their contracts.

Sources tell The Hollywood Reporter that Thursday’s negotiation session could include a request for Lloyd and co-creator Steven Levitan to “contribute to a new financial arrangement” for the actors. Levitan and Lloyd signed a hefty deal with 20th Century Fox after “Modern Family’s” first season.

ABC also announced Thursday that “Modern Family” will begin its fourth season on Wednesday, Sept. 26.
