arrested development season 5 More 'Arrested Development'? Netflix is open to making new seasons

“Arrested Development” Season 4 has finally premiered, and most fans likely spent the weekend marathoning the new 15 episodes. Those who finished the season are probably left with some big questions, chief among them being, “What comes next?

According to Netflix CEO Reed Hastings, there could be more seasons of “Arrested Development” on the video streaming format. The biggest hurdle that would need to be overcome to make that happen is to get the cast back on board for a fifth season.

“‘Arrested’ is unique, because [whether or not it comes back is] really up to the talent,” Hastings tells CNBC. “If the talent were willing to do more, and interested in that, I’m sure we would be willing.”

Netflix has declined to share just how “huge” the Season 4 premiere weekend was for the company, with Hastings explaining that they are instead looking at first year numbers. Regardless, fans shouldn’t expect new “Arrested Development” to come out any time soon based on a recent comment by creator Mitch Hurwitz.

“Jason Bateman used to always say, ‘We should do [‘Arrested Development’] like the Michael Apted films and do them every seven years.’ I like that idea because you only get somebody seven years in your life, which you realize as you get older,” Hurwitz said during a recent conference call. “Maybe it’s every three years, you know? Every two years? Something like that. … I think it would be a great thing to find some way to get [more], if this is successful. I hope it will be.”

The initial plan was to have Season 4 lead up into a movie, though it remains to be seen if that pans out. During a recent interview with Zap2it, Tony Hale says he would be happy either way.

“The show has always been the kind of thing where ‘we’ll see,’ because even the first time around we never knew if we were going to get canceled,” he says. “So we’re kind of used to ‘let’s enjoy it while we have it.’ If the movie happens that would obviously be fantastic, but if not, it’s been an awesome ride and I’m incredibly grateful for it.”
