Leslie Moonves, the President and Chief Executive Officer of the CBS Corporation, was enthusiastic in his statement with regard to the renewal: “In a world gone niche, NCIS keeps getting bigger, and Mark Harmon continues to define the role of leading man on the #1 show on television. NCIS is the type of franchise every company wants in today’s global content ecosystem — high-quality storytelling that generates passionate viewers and drives revenue on every conceivable platform.”
Since the show’s premiere in 2001 (when it was a spinoff from “JAG”), the ratings for “NCIS” have only gone up. Over the past year, the Tuesday-night hit has averaged 21.48 million viewers, representing a 7-percent growth from the previous year. DVR viewings only increase these numbers, with more than 25 million viewers when delayed viewing is factored in.
Harmon has starred on “NCIS” since the beginning, playing Leroy Jethro Gibbs, the super-flawed leader of a group of professionals who investigate Navy-related crimes.
“NCIS” airs Tuesdays at 8pm on CBS.
