Set for release in October 2014 and available for pre-order now, the memoir is meant to take the reader through Harris’ actual life, setting up various choices along the way. “You will decide whether to try out for ‘Doogie Howser, M.D.’ You will decide whether to spend years struggling with your sexuality. You will decide what kind of caviar you want to eat on board Elton John’s yacht,” reads the book’s promotional website.
While obviously meant at least partially as a joke, this “revolutionary, Joycean experiment in light celebrity narrative” really does cover Harris’ incredibly diverse and successful life. The autobiography also promises “magic tricks, cocktail recipes, embarrassing pictures from your time as a child actor, and even a closing song.” Readers can expect details on Harris’ “Dooger Howser” and “How I Met Your Mother” years, as well as his Broadway career. If the world is really lucky, “Starship Troopers” might make the cut too.
“Neil Patrick Harris: Choose Your Own Autobiography” goes on sale Oct. 14, 2014.
