If there’s anything you can say about the series finale of “How I Met Your Mother,” it’s that it definitely evoked a response from fans of the series. While it certainly wasn’t intentional, the rage that flowed from those who watched was a sight to see.
For series star Neil Patrick Harris, the reaction was actually something he appreciated. During an appearance on “The Late Show with David Letterman,” Patrick says, “I think that’s a compliment to the show in a weird way, because it means they grew up with these characters and wanted it to go a certain way.”
While Harris admits that the finale “wasn’t necessarily the happy ending people were expecting,” he adds, “I’m very proud of our show that it went beyond the sitcom conceit and told a bitter, better story.”
Harris had much more to say about the finale, which you can see in his interview above.

Chris E. Hayner is equal parts nerd, crazy person and coffee. He watches too much TV, knows more about pro wrestling than you do and remembers every single show from the TGIF lineup. You may have seen him as a pro-shark protester in "Sharknado 3." His eventual memoir will be called "You're Wrong, Here's Why..." TV words to live by: "I'm a firm believer that sometimes it's right to do the wrong thing."
