netflix logo Netflix raises prices again but only for new customers, for the time beingNew customers looking to sign up for Netflix will now be paying $8.99 a month instead of $7.99 (UK subscribers will also pay an extra £1 per month, while European subscribers will pay an extra €1 per month). However, customers with existing plans won’t feel the price increase for two more years.

Netflix sent out an email to subscribers (via Escapist) which reads: “In order to continue adding more movies and TV shows, we are increasing our price from $7.99 to $8.99 for new members. As a thank you for being a member of Netflix already, we guarantee that your plan and price will not change for two years.”

At least customers can see where that money is going. In the next couple of years, Netflix is expanding its original content slate with shows like the Wachowski’s “Sense8” and the Marvel “Defenders” limited series. Additionally, Chelsea Handler is rumored to have a new show on the streaming site.

The company also picked up more seasons of shows like “House of Cards” and “Orange Is the New Black,” and is expanding to some cable boxes.
