It’s finally happening! The boy band that only made it to No. 1 on TRL when *NSYNC’s and the Backstreet Boys’ videos were “retired” is reuniting for one night. (Insert “Una Noche” joke here.)
Nick Lachey and his brother Drew Lachey visited Ryan Seacrest’s radio show on Wednesday morning to make the big announcement: 98 Degrees will reconvene on August 18 in Hershey, Penn, for the Summer Mix Tape Festival. Earlier this year Nick squashed rumors of a reunion, not wanting to get fans’ hopes up for a full tour.
“I just wanted to make sure that they understood that a full tour wasn’t
happening this summer, but obviously very excited to announce that we’re
doing this big festival in Hershey in August. So, that will be our one
and only appearance,” he says.
Drew — who is now 35 (you are old) — adds, “We’re very excited about the opportunity, and we’ve been toying around
with the idea for a couple years of, ‘If we got back together, when
would be the right scenario,’ and this music festival right here just
kind of seemed like the right time to get back together and do a show
and kick the tires and see how it feels.”
It’ll be the band’s first reunion since their split in 2002. And yes, Chippendale dancer Jeff Timmons will be there — as will Justin Jeffre, who was last in the news in October 2011 for being arrested at an Occupy Cincinatti movement. He looks like this now:
Okay, so BSB, NKOTB, and 98 Degrees are all reuniting to capitalize on the whole 90s-are-cool-again trend. Who is going to start the letter-writing campaign to Justin Timberlake?
