sam and cat canceled jeanette mccurdy ariana grande Nickelodeon cancels 'Sam & Cat' after one seasonNickelodeon has canceled “Sam & Cat,” one of its highest-rated shows, after one season due to production issues.

The super-spinoff, which brought together Cat Valentine (Ariana Grande) from “Victorious” and Sam Puckett (Jennette McCurdy) from “iCarly” for one demographic-friendly comedy, was plagued with behind-the-scenes drama after discord arose during the filming of the show’s 40-episode first season. Only 36 episodes were produced.

According to reports, a growing rift between the two stars — and between McCurdy and the network — is to blame for the cancellation. McCurdy accused Nickelodeon of unfair treatment in an early 2014 tweet and didn’t show up to the network’s Kids Choice Awards.

Although some speculated that the actress’ racy photo scandal was to blame, TMZ reported at the time that it was a salary dispute, and Grande, who has a successful music career as well was making significantly more money than McCurdy.

Nickelodeon didn’t comment on the production issues, instead telling Deadline in a statement, “Nickelodeon will not be producing more episodes of ‘Sam & Cat.’ We are very proud of the show and its very talented cast and we wish them all the best.”
