Rapper Nicki Minaj ditches her trademark heavy makeup and rainbow colored wigs for a fresh makeunder on the cover of Elle magazine‘s April issue. Though the “American Idol” judge has scored numerous hits with her music, stripping off the facade is something she counts as a true accomplishment.
“I’m so, so attached to my pink lipstick, it’s hard,” Nicki says. “I feel that it’s become a part of me. To go in front of the camera, without pink lips or big ol’ crazy lashes — you know, nothing — I felt naked. It was scary! So this photo shoot was a real accomplishment in my eyes.”
In the issue, on stands March 26, Minaj also reveals that fellow rapper Lil Kim is not the first girl she’s had beef with. “I went through a lot of bullying early on. Girls made my life a living hell,” she says. “We had come to America from a different country. My brother and I had accents. It was very tough. So I’ve always put up this wall — it was a self-defense mechanism growing up — because I was almost expecting people to attack me. And I still have it. It’s sad.”
What’s not so sad, is Nicki’s acting skills and comedy chops. There is some fun video on Elle’s website of the “Super Bass” rapper — as the airheaded “Nicole from Elle” — interviewing herself for the cover story. Nicki tells “Nicole” she plans to be artificially inseminated “so I don’t ever have sex with anyone.” Good times. Check out the video below.
