“Orange Is The New Black” creator Jenji Kohan is making the jump from Netflix to HBO. Having already worked with Showtime for “Weeds,” Kohan is trying out something new with a Salem-set period drama.

The Hollywood Reporter says Kohan is prepping the drama with Lionsgate TV for HBO. She is writing the script with Bruce Miller and Tracy Miller, and Kohan and Bruce will both executive produce. Tracy will get a supervising producer credit.

The project is described as an untitled Salem period drama that “explores the circumstances around one of the most compelling chapters in American history where intolerance and repression set neighbor against neighbor and led a town to mass hysteria.” If that sounds familiar, it’s because it’s not the only Salem drama in the works.

WGN America also has a TV show called “Salem” that is set in 17th century Salem, Mass. It will also explore the witch trials, but seems to be veering more towards the supernatural. The show will center on a romance and the revelation that witches are real, but not quite what or who they seem. It’s unclear what angle Kohan will take on the Salem time period.

Are you looking forward to seeing Kohan tackle Salem?
