Exciting news, “Outlander” fans. Starz just announced that Steven Cree will be playing the role of Ian Murray in the upcoming show based on Diana Gabaldon’s popular book series.
Ian is Jenny Murray’s husband, which means in addition to being Jamie Fraser’s best friend since childhood, he is also Jamie’s brother-in-law. Ian lost part of his leg during a battle with the English, but that hasn’t slowed him down. He welcomes Claire Randall into the family when she makes her way to Lallybroch.
Cree is originally from Glasgow, Scotland, where he got his start performing in theatrical productions all around the United Kingdom. The actor has appear on stage in “Cabaret,” “Company” and “Macbeth,” which was directed by Kenneth Branagh.
On screen, Cree can be seen in “300: Rise of an Empire” and “Maleficent,” in addition to doing voice work in Pixar’s “Brave.” He’ll also be on the small screen later this year in the second season of BBC1’s “Atlantis”
“Outlander” premieres summer 2014 on Starz.
