A compendium of news and previews for “Parks and Recreation.” If this were a regular feature, it would be called All the Bacon and Eggs We Have.
– The show has snagged another cameo by a politician, though unlike those of Vice President Joe Biden and Sens. Barbara Boxer, John McCain and Olympia Snowe, this one was unplanned. “Parks and Rec” is doing some location shooting in Indianapolis this week, and Monday (Dec. 3), former House Speaker Newt Gingrich walked into the restaurant where the show was filming.
A quick meeting among the crew, including showrunner Mike Schur, led to a brief cameo for Gingrich. “It was a completely random chance,” Schur tells the Indianapolis Star. “But you can’t pass up on an opportunity like that.”
– So what’s the show doing in Indianapolis? Get ready for a possible spoiler …
The Star says they’re filming scenes for Ben’s (Adam Scott) bachelor party. All the male members of the cast — Aziz Ansari, Rob Lowe, Nick Offerman, Jim O’Heir and Chris Pratt — made the trip and spent several hours filming at the St. Elmo Steak House, an Indy institution whose menu would likely receive the Ron Swanson stamp of approval.
The timing of the trip to Indiana likely puts the episode’s airdate sometime in January or February. It could also mean Ben and Leslie’s (Amy Poehler) wedding isn’t too far in the future.
– Thursday’s (Dec. 6) episode is called “Ron and Diane” and revolves around the return of Tammy II (Megan Mullally), who threatens to sabotage Ron’s relationship with Diane (Lucy Lawless). The B-story features Jerry (O’Heir) throwing a Christmas party, with Christie Brinkley guesting as his wife. A few members of the parks department staff aren’t invited, as you can see in the previews below, while those who do get in are bemused about what they’re seeing. Take a look:
