Televangelist Pat Robertson appeared on the Christian Broadcast Network recently, where he lambasted “Saturday Night Live” for the Tim Tebow-Jesus skit the comedy show put on this past Saturday (Dec. 17). In the skit, which is above, Jesus drops by the Denver Broncos’ locker room to take credit for the teams’ many unbelievable wins they’ve had since Tebow, who is outspoken about his religious beliefs, took the helm.
In the skit, Jesus tells Tebow to tone it down a bit with the Jesus stuff, which Robertson calls “anti-Christian bigotry.” Robertson also says, “If this had been a Muslim country and they had done that, and had
Muhammad doing that stuff, you would have found bombs being thrown off!
And bodies on the street!”
He says of Tebow, “The fact that he prays and seeks God, I think we ought to applaud him. We need more religious faith in our society. We’re losing our moral compass in our nation and this man has been placed in a unique position and I applaud him.”
We have to say – the last two times Robertson was in the news were for asking if mac ‘n cheese is “a black thing” and for saying divorce is OK if your spouse gets Alzheimer’s, so perhaps his is a point of view that is too extreme.
Perhaps there is room to both like and laud Tim Tebow (or at least not mind his religious beliefs) and still poke a little fun at him? Did you find “SNL’s” skit to be inappropriate or mean-spirited?
