– Academy Award-winning actress Mira Sorvino is joining “Psych” for a multi-episode arc. Beginning with the seventh episode of the upcoming eighth season, Sorvino will play the Santa Barbara Police Department’s newest head detective, Betsy Brannigan, whose record for taking down ruthless criminals is rivaled only by her skills in sparkly craft making, and her seemingly bubbly demeanor can turn on a dime once she straps in the dual-wielded Colt .45s. She’s a scrapbooking, cat loving, crime-fighting machine. [USA]

– Get excited, “Happy Endings” and “New Girl” fans — after word that Damon Wayans Jr. was in talks to reprise his role on “New Girl” in a Season 3 arc, a FOX rep has confirmed that this is indeed the case. If you’ll recall, Wayans played Coach in the “New Girl” pilot, before “Happy Endings” got renewed. [THR]

– “Marvel’s Agents of SHIELD” has nailed down its music-maker. Composer Bear McCreary, of “Battlestar Galactica” and “The Walking Dead,” tweets, “Thrilled to announce my collaboration w/ Marvel, Joss Whedon and his
creative team. I am the composer for “Marvel’s Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.” [Twitter]

– Final DVR ratings are in for the “Under the Dome” premiere — the first installment of Stephen King’s novel come to life on CBS earned 17.76 million viewers, which is pretty much unheard of in this day and age in the summertime. Its 18-49 demo rating also jumped again, ending at a 4.6. [CBS]

– The Season 2 premiere of “The Newsroom” brought in 2.2 million viewers for HBO on Sunday. That’s up a little bit from the 2.1 million who watched the series premiere last year. [HBO]
