honey badger book Randall the Honey Badger guy made an 'anti old school animal book'Randall of the now-infamous honey badger video recently spoke with Zap2it about his new book, “Honey Badger Don’t Care: Randall’s Guide to Crazy, Nastya** Animals.” He also tells us the origins of his viral video.

Where did you even get the idea for your honey badger video:

“It was around this time last year. A good friend of mine called me in the middle of the night and says, ‘Listen, I have a video you gotta see.’ He knew I always loved animals. So he shows me this video and I was amazed. I just couldn’t believe this animal. And more than that, I just couldn’t believe for as crazy and nasty as it was, the narration was just horrible. It was so dull and boring and I was like, ‘You know what? Let’s go to town.’ He tried to give me a script and I said get outta here. I’m just gonna watch this thing and let it rip.”

Tell us about your animal book.

“The idea was to write a book, something that was contrary to the sort-of large, dense animal books that we grew up with. I said, ‘Oh, I’ll make an anti-old-school animal book.’ Just tell it like it is and bring people’s attention to these rare and crazy animals they may not be familiar with. Sadly, a lot of species in the book are either threatened or endangered.”

The table of contents lists some animals we’ve never even heard of:

“They’re crazy! There’s this animal called the Aye-Aye. It looks like if Don Knotts got drunk one night when he left Mayberry and slept with a bat. It looks like Don Knotts’ love child. And sadly, they live in Madagascar and their numbers are dwindling because people are superstitious that they’re a message of the Grim Reaper. So they kill them.”

We noticed sloths are on there. Did you see the Kristin Bell video about her love of sloths?

“Oh my god, I loved her. So funny. I love sloths. I had to put them in the book because they’re just up in the trees for weeks on end and they just come down to poop. That’s so fascinating. All they’re doing is eating leaves and branches.”

“Randall’s Guide to Crazy, Nastya** Animals” is on bookshelves now.
