Apollo Nida, husband of “Real Housewives of Atlanta” star Phaedra Parks, was sentenced to eight years in federal prison today (July 8) on money laundering and identity theft charges, he plead guilty to in May 2014.

Nida was charged for a scheme that spanned over four years, where he cashed stolen checks and laundered more than $2.3 million from over 50 individuals through fraudulent bank accounts.

Reginald G. Moore, Special Agent in Charge of the United States Secret Service, told the Atlanta Journal Constitution after the sentencing, “Today’s sentencing exemplifies impartial justice regardless of economic class or perceived celebrity status. Nida’s sentence should be an eye opener for other like-minded criminals
who scheme to steal victims’ identities, defraud them and ignore the
consequences of their actions.”

TMZ also reports the maximum sentencing for Nida could have been up to 30 years and he appears to have received leniency for confessing criminal secrets to federal investigators.

This isn’t Nida’s first long term in the slammer, he served six years for car theft back in 2003 and his legal troubles were among issues featured between he and wife Phaedra on “Real Housewives of Atlanta.”

The couple have two young sons together, Dylan and Ayden.
