redskins name change gi Redskins name change: Washington Redtails proposed for NFL team

The Washington Redskins of the NFL have had the idea of a name change thrown around before. That discussion is starting again, after the mayor of Washington, D.C. said in January that a change might help to facilitate the team moving back into D.C. city limits.
A Washington, D.C. Council member is planning to propose a resolution to finally change the name, and even offered a new one. Council member David Grosso wants the “derogatory, racist” name gone for good, the Washington Post reports. The team started out in Boston in 1932, playing a season as the Braves, before becoming the Redskins. They moved to Washington, D.C. in 1937.
“It’s been a long time that we’ve had this name associated with Washington, and I think its time we take a stand and change it,” Grosso says. The resolution, which Grosso plans to formally introduce soon, includes a plea to change the name to the Washington Redtails, a nickname used by the Tuskegee Airmen.
According to Grosso, it’s an easy change to make. “You cans till sing the song and everything,” he says, singing, “Hail … to the … Redtails.”
What do you think? Is the Redskins name outdated and in need of a change?
