Actress Reese Witherspoon and husband Jim Toth, a Hollywood agent, were arrested over the weekend in Atlanta. Toth got a DUI after blowing .139 on the Breathalyzer, while Witherspoon was cited for disorderly conduct.
Witherspoon reportedly said things like “Do you know my name … you’re about to find out who I am” and “You are going to be on national news” to the arresting officer, which she now says she is “deeply embarrassed” about.
“I clearly had one drink too many, and I am deeply embarrassed about the things I said. It was definitely a scary situation, and I was frightened for my husband, but that is no excuse. I was disrespectful to the officer who was just doing his job. The words I used that night definitely do not reflect who I am. I have nothing but respect for the police, and I’m very sorry for my behavior,” says Witherspoon in a statement.
She also says she cannot comment any further “out of respect” for the pending case, for which lawyers for Witherspoon and Toth will appear in court on Monday (April 22). Witherspoon walked the red carpet for her new film “Mud” Sunday evening in New York (pictured, above), but did not speak with any reporters.
