The New Orleans Saints chose a running back, former Heisman Trophy winner Mark Ingram, with their first pick in the NFL draft Thursday (April 28). That seems not to have sat too well with the Saints’ most famous current running back, Reggie Bush.
“It’s been fun New Orleans,” the oft-injured, formerly Kardashian-dating Bush tweeted after the Saints chose Ingram, who won the 2009 Heisman playing at Alabama, with the 28th overall pick Thursday night. Three hours after that, he decided to welcome his new teammate into the fold: “Congrats to Mark Ingram on being selected to New Orleans. He will be a great addition to the Saints backfield just as he was in Alabama.”
So what was with the “It’s been fun” remark? Well, either Bush knows something the rest of the world doesn’t about his status with the Saints, or he’s just assuming that the selection of Ingram means he’s on the way out. Bush’s agent, Joel Segal (who also represents Ingram), isn’t saying anything. The Saints want to restructure Bush’s contract — i.e., pay him less for the coming season — but he’s reportedly not high on the idea.
Add to that the fact that the NFL is still trying to sort out how to work things since its lockout of players was lifted by a federal judge this week, and it’s probably fair to say that no one — not even Reggie Bush — knows exactly what Bush’s status with the Saints is.
But Reggie? Think before you tweet next time.
