The future looks bright for TNT freshman drama “Rizzoli & Isles.” The network says 7.6 million viewers tuned in for the first episode of the Angie Harmon and Sasha Alexander vehicle on Monday, July 12.
That would make the “R&I” debut cable’s most watched commercial-supported series launch of all time. And they might want to send Kyra Sedgwick a thank-you card for that. The season 6 premiere of Sedgwick’s “The Closer” offered a generous lead-in, with 7.7 million viewers.
“R&I” improved on “The Closer” in key adult demographics, though, grabbing just over 2 million in adults 18-49.
TNT is no stranger to blockbuster cable numbers. The title of most watched basic cable series premiere of all time belongs to the 2008 debut of “Raising the Bar.” The short-lived Mark-Paul Gosselaar legal drama pulled in slightly better numbers but aired without commercials.
We heart “Rizzoli and Isles,” so lets hope the show maintains the strong start for the rest of the season.
