robin williams cause of death hanging Robin Williams cause of death is hanging, police say

The Marin County Sheriff’s Department has released its findings so far in the death of comedian Robin Williams. He is believed to have committed suicide by hanging, with the preliminary cause of death being asphyxia.
His wife, Susan Schneider, says she went to bed about 10:30 p.m. on Sunday (Aug. 10). Eventually, Williams retreated to a different room for the night. Schneider left the house about 10 a.m. Monday, believing Williams was still asleep.
Later, his personal assistant arrived at the house and became concerned when he didn’t answer as she knocked on his bedroom door. Upon entering the room, she discovered him unresponsive.
According to sheriff’s Lt. Keith Boyd, Williams was found slightly suspended, in a seated position with a belt around his neck. The other end of the belt was wedged between a closet door and the door frame.
Investigators also discovered Williams had “acute, superficial, transverse” cuts on the inside of his left wrist. A pocketknife was found close by with dried red material on the blade. They haven’t determined whether the substance is blood.
The sheriff’s office will not confirm whether a note was left, or if there were signs of drug and alcohol abuse in the home. A full toxicology report will be made available in roughly two to six weeks.
Williams was 63 years old.
