rosie perez neck injury Rosie Perez sues 'Law & Order: SVU' over neck injury from overzealous extra

Nearly two years after filming an episode of NBC’s “Law & Order: Special Victims Unit,” actress Rosie Perez is still dealing with the repercussions of a particularly demanding scene.

The New York Post reports the actress is suing the series’ production companies for negligence that led to neck injuries she sustained while playing an abused child’s mother in a September 2009 episode.

The 46-year-old, best known for roles in “Fearless” and “White Men Can’t Jump,” was pulled out of a car and shaken by an extra in the “L&O” scene in question, allegedly causing injuries that required a discectomy and fusion of several of her vertebrae.

Lucky for that extra, Northern Entertainment Productions and DDF Films are the only parties facing Perez’s charges, which include “recklessly and carelessly failing to provide skilled performers or experienced stunt personnel.”

Perez has clearly taken her time making the case. Her procedures have taken place over the last two years. She was even photographed at the White House in 2010, wearing a neck brace and being pushed in a wheel chair [above].

We’d like to give a special shout-out to the New York Daily News, which, in its coverage of the story, went for an obvious, but nonetheless brilliant lead…

“In the civil justice system, actors – like Rosie Perez – can take legal action if injured during the filming of a “Law & Order: SVU” episode. This is her story.”

Dun dun!
