pussy riot video game Russian video game forces players to 'kill' Pussy Riot singers to win

One video game revealed at a Russian Orthodox youth festival takes aim at the singers in Pussy Riot. The trio of musicians were arrested and jailed in August 2012 after protesting Vladimir Putin at Christ the Saviour Cathedral, though one woman was later released on appeal.

Many American celebrities like Madonna and Paul McCartney have offered their support of Nadezhda Tolokonnikova, 23, Maria Alyokhina, 25, and Yekaterina Samutsevich, 30. Both Tolokonnikova and Alyokhina are serving a two year sentence, while Samutsevich was the woman freed.

In the game, cartoon versions of the Pussy Riot singers try to enter a white church. If any of them succeed before the video game player stops them, a little red devil dances around on the screen.

“You have to kill them with a cross before they get into the church, That’s the point,” festival organizer Boris Yakemenko tells Reuters. One person who saw the game called it “revolting.”

The game reportedly took two weeks to play. A representative for Pussy Riot did not respond to Reuters’ request for comment.
