Ryan Dunn and passenger Zachary Hartwell died from the impact and subsequent fire when the Porsche Dunn, one of the stars of the “Jackass” movies, was driving slammed into a tree on a rural Pennsylvania road early Monday (June 20) morning.
The Chester County coroner names blunt force trauma and thermal trauma as the causes of death of both men, according to the Associated Press.
As yet, there is no official word on whether alcohol played a role in the accident. Although Dunn and Hartwell had been spotted drinking earlier the same evening, the coroner’s office won’t get the results of toxicology reports for up to six weeks.
Dunn’s death and an anti-drunk driving statement made by film critic Roger Ebert have inspired a heated debate on social media sites about the appropriateness of Ebert’s message and/or timing.
