“Hey girl, I’ll stop starring in major motion pictures so we can spend more time together.” That’s pretty much what Ryan Gosling is saying to his burgeoning directing career, much to the chagrin of his adoring fans.
“The Place Beyond the Pines” star tells the Associated Press he’s tired of the pressure brought on by carrying the lead role in a film, and he wants to step back from acting to focus on directing for a while.
“I’ve been doing it too much,” Gosing says of acting. “I’ve lost perspective on what I’m doing. I think it’s good for me to take a break and reassess why I’m doing it and how I’m doing it.” Besides, Gosling explains, “I need a break from myself as much as I imagine the audience does.”
Well, Mr. Gosling, you are imagining it all wrong. No one in the audience needs a break from you — like, ever. So please make this dalliance with directing a quick one and come back to the big screen where you belong. Back to a place where women across the country can sit in theaters and drool, while certain female movie stars do what women across the country were simply thinking about doing.
While Ryan is off getting his mind right, fans can take comfort in knowing they can see “Pines” in theaters beginning March 29. So go buy tickets, people. Show Gosling he’s loved and appreciated, and maybe he’ll come back to us. And remember to stay calm, everyone. Ryan’s not dumping us — we’re just “going on a break.”
