school of rock nick 'School of Rock' becoming a Nickelodeon series in 2015Nickelodeon has picked up a series version of the movie “School of Rock,” a movie released before much of its target audience was born.

Still, the idea of a down-on-his-luck rocker landing a teaching job at a prep school doesn’t seem like a bad fit for the kid-centric channel. Casting for the lead role of Dewey Finn (played by Jack Black in the 2003 movie) and other roles will be announced soon, and the movie’s director, Richard Linklater, is on board as an executive producer.

“‘School of Rock’ is one of those great movies that always felt quintessentially Nickelodeon in its tone and humor, and we jumped at the opportunity to partner with Paramount Television and bring it to life as a TV series,” says Russell Hicks, Nickelodeon’s head of content and development. “Once again, kids will be able to laugh and rock.”

Jim and Steve Armogida (“My Family,” “Crash & Bernstein”) will serve as writers and executive producers on the show. It has a 13-episode order for the spring of 2015.
