couric pelley gi Scott Pelley to replace Katie Couric at 'CBS Evening News'Long-time “60 Minutes” correspondent Scott Pelley will replace outgoing anchor Katie Couric at “CBS Evening News” on June 6.

The network made the announcement on Tuesday (May 3), praising Pelley as a consummate newsman.

“We like to think of CBS News as the ‘reporter’s network’ and I can’t think of anybody in this business better suited for the anchor chair than Scott,” read the official release.

Couric announced her plans to leave the evening news broadcast in April, calling the anchor desk “a pretty confining venue” and saying she’d like to do something “more in my wheelhouse,” allowing her to do “what I think I do best, which is interacting with people, interviewing with people.”

Speculation is that Couric’s next move will be a talk show — though what, when and where aren’t yet clear. Couric was the first woman to anchor an evening news broadcast solo when she took over from Dan Rather in 2006.

Pelley has been with CBS News for more than two decades where, according to the release, “he’s covered everything from breaking national news stories to politics to wars and served as the network’s chief White House correspondent.”

Couric’s contract expires on June 4. The CBS release did not include when her last day would be.

What do you think? Will Pelley be a return to form for the network or are you sorry to see Couric go?
