friday night lights season 5 Season 5 of 'Friday Night Lights' starts in October

Your 13-episode-long “Friday Night Lights” goodbye party just got a start date.

According to EW, the fifth and final season of the high school football drama bows on DirecTV October 27. And as sad as it is to think about a world without the people of Dillon, Texas, it’s pretty satisfying when you think about how many times this show almost didn’t make it.

October 27 is pretty soon if you watched the recent NBC run of Season 4, which just ended on August 6, with the triumph of Coach Taylor’s (Kyle Chandler) East Dillon Lions over his former team, the Panthers. Two more cast members also lost their series regular status, as Landry (Jesse Plemons) flew to Chicago with Saracen (Zach Gilford) and Riggins (Taylor Kitsch) took the fall for his brother and went off to prison.

But at least the final season promises a few returns. Adrianne Palicki confirmed to Zap2it that she’s in the final two episodes, along with many other original cast members.

If you want a stroll down memory lane before the October premiere — or before NBC’s unannounced run of the final season — ABC Family kicks of its syndicated run of “FNL” September 1.
