sharknado-2-faq.JPGThe media event of the summer, “Sharknado 2: The Second One,” arrives Wednesday (July 30). As it’s been more than a year since the first “Sharknado” aired on Syfy, it might be a good idea for Sharknadiacs and newcomers — believe it or not, there are those who haven’t seen it! — alike to get (re)acquainted with the Sharknadiverse.

With that in mind, Zap2it presents the following “Sharknado 2” FAQ.

What’s a Sharknado?
It’s a tornado. With sharks.

Who’s in “Sharknado 2: The Second One”?
Ian Ziering and Tara Reid survived their encounter with the first “Sharknado” and reprise their roles as bar owner-turned-reluctant hero Fin (yes, Fin) and his ex-wife, April. Also there are about a million cameos, from Matt Lauer to “Airplane” star Robert Hays to pro wrestler Kurt Angle.

Who made the movie?
It comes from The Asylum, the production company behind many of Syfy’s low-budget, tongue-in-cheek original movies. Director Anthony C. Ferrante and writer Thunder Levin, who brought the first “Sharknado” to life, are back for the sequel.

What’s the story?
There’s another Sharknado. The action moves from Los Angeles to New York, where Fin and April just happen to be for a signing of her book, “How to Survive a Sharknado.”

Am I in any danger of experiencing an actual Sharknado?
Probably not, particularly if you happen to live away from the coasts (where there tend to be more tornadoes but way fewer sharks). But you needn’t take our word for it — the experts at the Weather Channel will set your mind at ease.

Was the first one really that big a deal?
Yes and no. Only 1.4 million people watched “Sharknado’s” premiere in July 2013, but it pretty well took over social media the night it aired. As a result, repeats of the movie actually drew bigger audiences, and Syfy was quick to capitalize on the phenomenon. A third movie has already been greenlit (see our list of suggested titles).

I missed the first “Sharknado.” Will I be able to follow this one?
Yes. See “What’s a Sharknado?” above.

Seriously, though. Is there one thing I should really know going in to “Sharknado 2”?
Well, Fin did cut his way out of a shark’s belly with a chainsaw.

So there’s that.

OK, I’m in — you had me at “chainsaw.” When does this thing air?
9 p.m. ET/PT Wednesday on Syfy, and probably many times after that.
