sherlock season 4 mark gatiss mycroft holmes bbc 'Sherlock' Season 4 premiere date is 'closer,' says EP Mark Gatiss

The “Sherlock” Season 4 premiere date may be closer than expected, according to hints dropped by series executive producer and co-star Mark Gatiss.

Gatiss tells Radio Times this week that he and co-creator Steven Moffat have “moved significantly closer to getting a date in the diary for Series 4.” Unfortunately, this does not yet mean any set dates for either filming or the release of the next season.

What is the hold-up? Essentially, the only thing stopping more “Sherlock” is time. Stars Benedict Cumberbatch and Martin Freeman are busy making movies and other TV shows, Moffat and Gatiss have “Doctor Who” to produce, and Gatiss also has acting jobs to complete (he most recently appeared in an episode of “Game of Thrones”).

Still, the combination of fan fervor and creative dedication means that “Sherlock” Season 4 will be coming at some point — hopefully sooner rather than later.
