norman reedus silent hills konami sony 'Silent Hills': Norman Reedus, Guillermo del Toro, Hideo Kojima announce reboot in most terrifying way imaginableFor anyone familiar with the video game industry, it’s a pretty big deal that “Metal Gear Solid” creator Hideo Kojima is teaming with fantasy cinema auteur Guillermo del Toro to reboot the “Silent Hill” horror franchise with a new game, “Silent Hills,” starring “The Walking Dead” actor Norman Reedus.

That’s why it’s not a big surprise that the trio and video game developer Konami announced the game in a unique manner very true to its source material. During Gamescom conference in Germany on Aug. 12, Sony revealed the game via a “P.T.” — playable teaser — downloadable from the PlayStation store.
The teaser is a horror game in its own right, though it’s been revealed that the downloadable demo isn’t actually related to “Silent Hills'” gameplay or story. The demo is more a promise of what can come from the minds of Kojima and del Toro, and it’s a great promise.
The P.T. is truly terrifying, as the player is forced to run through the same hallway of the same house over and over as small details change and transform in ways meant to scare the player. It doesn’t offer much in the way of explanations as to what the player is supposed to do to advance, making it all the scarier as demonic ghosts jump out at you and a refrigerator holding a screaming child dangles from the ceiling and drips blood on the floor.

But if you do get to the end of the demo — getting that far involves something about a baby laughing through a phone several times — then the below trailer reveals what the P.T. is for: “Silent Hills.”

Are you on board with this reboot?
