paul mccartney diamond jubilee getty Sir Paul McCartney to close 2012 London Summer Olympics opening ceremoniesSir Paul McCartney has confirmed he’s “been booked” for the opening ceremonies of the 2012 London Summer Olympics, telling BBC Radio 5 that he will be “closing the opening.”

A full lineup for the opening ceremony celebration has yet to be announced, but the former Beatle being involved has been rumored for for awhile. In January, McCartney revealed he was in talks to take part.

McCartney also just performed for the Diamond Jubilee of Queen Elizabeth II, performing as the final act for the star-studded concert Monday, June 4. McCartney also told BBC Radio that “on certain occasions” he still gets nervous before performing. We wonder if the Diamond Jubilee was one of those times, or if the Olympics will be?

The 2012 Summer Games kick off with the opening ceremonies Friday, July 27, 2012, live from London.
