“Sleepy Hollow” is keeping true to its inherent creepiness and has cast John Noble — otherwise known as Dr. Walter Bishop on “Fringe” — in a recurring guest-starring role.

FOX announced Friday (Sept. 20) that Noble would appear over several episodes, starting later in Season 1. He will play a man named Henry Parrish. Described as kind and reclusive, he “possesses supernatural powers that have the potential to help the series’ protagonist, Ichabod Crane.”

With this role, Noble collaborates once again with “Sleepy Hollow” producers Alex Kurtzman, Roberto Orci and Heather Kadin — all formerly involved with “Fringe.”

Nominated in 2012 and honored in 2011 for a Critics’ Choice Best Supporting Actor in a Drama Series award, Noble spent five seasons on “Fringe” playing Bishop — a mentally disturbed scientist who alternated between inventing ways to end the world and exhibiting a childish love of candy and cows. The Australian actor also played Denethor in the second and third “Lord of the Rings” movies.

While Noble’s arrival on “Sleepy Hollow” will have to wait a bit, the second episode (airing Monday, Sept. 23) moves forward the odd plot of Ichabod Crane (Tom Mison) and Lieutenant Abbie Mills (Nicole Beharie) trying to find the truth underneath the supernatural mysteries of Sleepy Hollow. A frightening vision from Katrina (Katia Winter), Ichabod’s 18th-century wife, sends the new partners on a hunt for an ancient witch just awoken by “unknown evils.”

“Sleepy Hollow” airs Mondays at 9 p.m. on FOX.
