sleepy hollow season 2 spoilers 'Sleepy Hollow' Season 2: Ichabbie, 'erotic' monster hunting and jealousyIchabod Crane and Abbie Mills were torn apart in the “Sleepy Hollow” Season 1 finale. Although they won’t reunite immediately when Season 2 begins, there will be a lot more to the Ichabbie relationship throughout the next 18 episodes, the cast and producers tell reporters at the 2014 Television Critics Association summer press tour in Beverly Hills.

“It continues to evolve. … It’s the heart of the show,” executive producer Len Wiseman says of Ichabod and Abbie’s relationship.

Adds EP Mark Goffman, “There’s no question their relationship is at the core of everything we do. There are going to be some real trust issues” in Season 2.

While the Ichabbie relationship does have its steamier moments — “Running around in the woods in the middle of the night chasing after monsters is profoundly erotic, and so sometimes I have to throw a saucy look. Hashtag Ichabbie,” jokes star Tom Mison — its platonic yet intimate nature is what makes the show.

“I think Abbie and Crane need each other very desperately,” says EP Alex Kurtzman. “As a man out of time obviously he needs her for guidance but she’s been so alone her whole life [and she needs him too].”

Star John Noble says he’s observed the connection Nicole Beharie and Mison have as actors, and in some ways it’s very similar to their characters’ connection. “These two, right from the beginning, it was there — this magical thing,” he says. “It seemed like a very natural and truthful relationship, which I think the audience picked up on as well.”

Beharie says one of the things that attracted her to the role was the platonic nature of Abbie’s relationship with Ichabod. “I really think it’s interesting and kind of fun … that she has a relationship with a man but it’s not romantic. She’s not necessarily defined by some sexual or amorous desires.”

Beharie continues, “I love that they’re so different. Crane has become a family member in a way. He’s the closest person she’s had in her life because she’s been fostered off and everyone’s died. The relationship mirrors our own relationship in that we spend a lot of time together and we’ve gotten to know each other and there’s a shorthand.”

That said, the relationship is still very intimate and there’s still some jealousy there. “Other people come in to kind of pull them away,” teases Wiseman.

Adds Goffman, “We’re going to drop a few bombs this season … that none of them could have possibly been prepared for.”
