Perhaps the biggest “Smallville” casting news of the year (barring a possible return by Michael Rosenbaum) came when it was announced that Teri Hatcher would make an appearance as Ella Lane, Lois Lane’s (Erica Durance) mother.
Hatcher, of course, played Lois alongside Dean Cain’s Clark Kent in “Lois & Clark: The New Adventures of Superman” in the 1990s.
Now, we’ve got your first look at Hatcher’s much-anticipated performance. Ella Lane passed away when Lois was a child, but in Friday’s episode, Lois will uncover an old video that her mother made for her.
In this sneak peek, Lois cries as she watches the tape, where her mother says, “I will always be your mother, Lois.”
After the harrowing (and heartwarming) Lane family reunion on last week’s episode, we know how important family is to Lois. As “Smallville” winds down to its final climactic episodes, we’re happy to see them tying up some loose ends and giving their characters closure.
We chatted with Durance at “Smallville’s” 200th Episode party in Vancouver, where she told us she’d had a very strong reaction to learning that Hatcher accepted the role. “I was in shooting another scene at the time and it was supposed to be a
really funny scene, and I got the text and I burst into tears,” she says. “I had an absolute, unequivocal fan moment. I’m thrilled.”
