“Smash” is taking a page from the “Glee” playbook and releasing several of the musical numbers in Monday’s (Feb. 13) episode. So take a listen — and a look, in one case — at two covers and one original number from “The Callback.”

The original number, “20th Century Fox Mambo,” is at the top of the post. You can watch Karen (Katharine McPhee) and several dancers work through a rehearsal of a number from the Marilyn Monroe musical, and about halfway through the costumes switch from the tights and tank tops of the rehearsal space to the show’s period costumes, and Karen goes full Marilyn.

(As we said after last week’s premiere, the way “Smash” handles is musical numbers and the transition from reality to fantasy is one of our favorite parts of the show.)

Below are the two covers: Megan Hilty‘s Ivy sings a version of Carrie Underwood’s “Crazy Dreams,” and McPhee does a slow-burn rendition of Blondie’s “Call Me.” Both are pretty strong — the show did not cast any slouches for its primary singing roles.

“Smash” airs at 10 p.m. ET Monday on NBC.
