“So You Think You Can Dance” host Cat Deeley likes the new once-a-week format of the FOX summer dance show better than the two nights it had been because it loses the padding.
“I think its better because, quite often, when I was doing the results show, it felt stretched out, too slow,” Deeley tells Zap2it.
Rather than have recaps of what happened the day before and fillers, the ninth season of the talent contest — showcasing unknown dancers with tremendous talent — is now a trimmer, more efficient show.
“If we put [results] into the performance show, it adds a new layer to the show,” Deeley says. “People are home watching, and this is so much more exciting. It will add this whole new layer of jeopardy and excitement.”
Deeley also hosts a new dating show on FOX, “The Choice,” which could sway her opinion. Still that doesn’t detract from the point that melding SYTYCD’s competition and results into one evening allows for a tighter episode — and for viewers to move onto summer’s other offerings, like dating shows.
