If you love TV, you’ve undoubtedly heard the phrase, “Spoiler alert!” That’s fair — most of us don’t want to know what’s coming on our favorite shows.
Sometimes, however, the fear of spoilers goes a little bit too far. And “Portlandia” Season 3 is ready to remind us of this.
A video clip from one of the first sketches airing this season on the Portland-based comedy shows just how crazy things can get when people take their spoiler worry a little too far. The main characters in the sketch are the couple we saw go sci-fi crazy during last season’s “Battlestar Galactica” story. Back then, the two (played by “Portlandia” stars Fred Armisen and Carrie Brownstein) started watching the beloved science-fiction program one evening. And then they couldn’t stop. They were that obsessed.
In this season, the couple have decided to have a dinner party with another couple. Naturally, everyone wants to talk about their favorite shows. Too bad not everyone has seen every episode. That’s when the spoiler alerts go a bit nuts.
You can watch the video for yourself, but (spoiler alert!) be warned that they do mention key plot points from such shows and movies as:
- “Breaking Bad”
- “Game of Thrones”
- “Mad Men”
- “Dexter” (“Michael C. Hall in the van!”)
- “True Blood”
- “Downton Abbey”
- “Six Feet Under” (“Michael C. Hall in the van!”)
- “The Usual Suspects”
- “The Empire Strikes Back”
- “Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince”
- “The Sopranos”
- “The Sixth Sense”
- “The Golden Girls”
- “Boy Meets World”
- “The Wire”
Because this is “Portlandia” and therefore bizarre, the whole thing ends with a blast from the past waking up from a bad dream. In case you haven’t seen it (in which case, spoiler alert!) or have forgotten, the dreamer is none other than Portland’s version of Ronald D. Moore.
He still isn’t the creator of “Battlestar Galactica.”
The new season of “Portlandia” premieres on Friday, Jan. 4 at 10pm on IFC.
